What is the UFP?

The University Foundation Programme (UFP) is a one-year intensive course that prepares both British and international students to attend top UK universities.

It is an alternative route to degree-level studies and is recognised as an A-Level or IB equivalent.

Our University Foundation Programme team has a wealth of experience in preparing students for entry into the top British universities and we have excellent relationships with many UK and international universities.

Our Foundation Course is recognised by over 90 universities in the UK, so you have the freedom to choose your university.

Foundation Year Options 2023/2024

Extended University Foundation Programme:

Our Extended Programme prepares students to attend top UK universities and gives the opportunity to improve knowledge and academic English skills before joining a UFP course. It is especially suitable for those who require additional Academic English Language Support.

Start January 2024

  • A five-term programme with the full course running from January to June 2025.
  • Minimum of IELTS 5.0 overall or B1 equivalent (CEFR).

Start April 2024

  • A four-term programme running from April to June 2025.
  • For students who haven’t reached a minimum of IELTS 5.5 overall or B1 equivalent (CEFR), or who have not reached 5.0 in each component.

*We will advise on the length of English language support (one, two, or three terms) based on current English level.

Medical Foundation Programme:

Our International Medical Foundation Programme is a 1-year programme starting in September, specifically designed to provide students with the best possible grounding for application to Medical schools.

  • Provides students with an alternative to A Levels as a route to medical school.
  • Study Biology, Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Physics or Psychology, as well as introductory sessions in topics such as: Pathology, Physiology, Genetics and Pharmacology.
  • Taught by highly skilled and experienced teachers in a specialised medical school stream.
  • Support provided with UCAS applications, personal statements, university entry research, UCAT* / BMAT preparation and interview preparation.
  • Minimum 6.5 Overall is required in IELTs (or equivalent) with at least 6.0 in each component.

FAQs

What is the admissions process?

Initially we’ll ask for a short academic overview, then we arrange an interview for students and family members to speak with the Principal, Vice-Principal, or Head of Admissions to discuss the various courses and options available at Bath Academy.

A letter will follow outlining the key points discussed and indicating the relevant course details.

How many students enrol at Bath Academy each year?

Bath Academy is co-educational and enrols between 90-120 students per year with both day and boarding students. The student population is predominantly British students with around 30% international students

Is there an age limit for your courses?

We accept students between 16-19 for our UFP Programme.

Is it possible to arrange a visit to the college?

Yes, prospective students are able to visit the college from September. If you would like to meet the Principal or visit before September, this is possible but will need to be pre-arranged by appointment.  Video meetings can also be arranged if you cannot make it to the UK before your studies.

How do you support students?

We promote open lines of communication between staff, teachers, tutors and students to ensure every possibility of student concerns are covered. Each student has their own Personal Tutor who supports all aspects of student wellbeing, including UCAS guidance and help with their university application. Personal Tutors work closely with the Principal, Vice-Principal, Welfare Officer, Enrichment Lead, and support staff to ensure that each individual feels they have the support, respect and opportunities they need to reach their full potential.
